Questions & policies
If something you are wondering about is not here, just ask — Elizabeth would rather answer it before you book than have you guess.
How is fascial massage different from deep tissue?
Deep tissue is mostly about pressure — working harder into a muscle. Fascial work is about time. Pressure is applied and held, often for a minute or more, while the connective tissue softens and releases. It is frequently gentler than a deep tissue massage, and clients often find the results last longer because the restriction itself is addressed rather than the soreness around it.
Will it hurt?
It should not. The useful edge is firm and noticeable but never something you have to brace against or hold your breath through. You will be asked about pressure during the session and you can adjust it at any point. Some areas feel intense for a moment as they release; that is different from pain, and if it crosses over, say so and it changes immediately.
What should I wear?
Come in whatever is comfortable. You will have the room to yourself to undress to the level you prefer, and you are draped with a sheet the entire session — only the area being worked is uncovered. Plenty of clients stay in shorts or underwear, which works well for fascial work.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on how long the pattern has been there. Many people notice a real difference after one session. Something long-standing usually responds better to a few sessions spaced a week or two apart, and then occasional maintenance. You will get an honest opinion, once — there are no packages to buy and no pressure to commit to a plan.
Do you take insurance?
Not directly. Payment is due at the session by cash, card, or HSA/FSA card — massage therapy is often an eligible HSA/FSA expense, especially with a letter of medical necessity from your doctor. A detailed receipt is available on request if you want to submit it yourself.
Should I tip?
Tips are always optional. If you'd like to support the practice at no cost, tell a friend, leave a review or share on social media. Thank you!
Where is the studio?
It is a private, single-client studio in Herndon, VA, with off-street parking and its own entrance. The exact street address is not published publicly — it is a home studio, and that keeps things private for everyone. You receive the full address and parking instructions in your booking confirmation.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please give at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. Inside that window the fee is 50% of the session rate, and a missed appointment without notice is the full session rate. With one therapist and one table, a late cancellation is time that cannot be filled. That said, life happens — if something genuinely unavoidable comes up, get in touch.
What if I am sick on the day?
Please reschedule, and there is no fee for it. This is close work in a small room. A cold, a fever, or anything contagious is always a good reason to move the appointment, and doing so is appreciated rather than penalised.
Is there anyone this work is not appropriate for?
There are some conditions where massage needs to be modified or postponed — recent surgery, blood clots or clotting disorders, certain skin conditions, active infections, some cancer treatments, and pregnancy, among others. None of these are automatic disqualifiers, but they do change how a session is run. Mention anything relevant when you book, and check with your physician if you are unsure.
How far ahead can I book?
Available times are shown on the booking page, typically covering the next several weeks. If nothing there works for you, get in touch — times open up as schedules shift, and it is often possible to find something that is not listed.
Do you offer gift certificates?
Yes, printed or emailed. Send a note through the contact page and one can be arranged.
The fine print
Studio policies
Cancellations
24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. Inside that window, 50% of the session rate. A no-show is the full session rate.
Running late
Your session still ends at the scheduled time so the next client is not affected, and the full rate applies. Let Elizabeth know if you are held up — as much time as possible will be saved for you.
Illness
Reschedule with no fee if you are unwell. This is close work in a small room, and moving the appointment is always the right call.
Scope of practice & consent
This is a licensed therapeutic practice. You are draped throughout, work only happens where you have agreed to it, and you can pause or end a session at any time with no charge for the remainder. Any request outside professional scope ends the session.
Sessions are 30 minutes of hands-on work unless booked otherwise. Prices and policies were last reviewed for the current season; see services for the full menu and privacy for how your information is handled.
